Forest Wild Camp – My Kit List & The Alpkit Hunka Bivvy

We’ve had a window of good weather in the UK recently so this was a last minute decision to head out to meet my friends Jay & Ray in the regular forest. We were treated to a great night under the stars and it was my first outing in the Alpkit Hunka XL Bivvy Bag. I’ve had many requests over the past couple of years to do a kit list, I’ve included a run down of the items in the video that I take with me regularly on Wild Camps.

I mention each individual item in the video but I’ll talk about a few bits of kit here. My pack of choice at the moment is the Osprey Exos 48, I’ve had it for a while now and it’s proving to be excellent. It’s very comfortable indeed, I went for the medium size back length and it fits me perfectly. It has some external pockets so the overal capacity of the bag is great for overnighter and multi day treks.

My sleeping systems consists of a Therm-a-rest Venture WV which is excellent and is still as good as new after a couple of years use. My sleeping bag is a Vango Ultralite 1300, it’s ok to around zero degrees but any colder than that then I need to put on extra layers of clothing. It’s synthetic so I’d say it’s more of a 3 season bag than the advertised 4. I’m happy to report that my first night in the new Alpkit Hunka XL went really well, it’s a similar size to the Army Issue Bag but the fabric is much thinner. It packs down to about half the size and it feels very nicely made. Only time will tell if it is as durable as my 10 year old Army Bivvy, I do have lots of confidence in Alpkit products as I’ve been happy with their kit in the past.

It is my favourite time of year in the forest at the moment, life is starting to appear again and the blue bells are out. Finally… it feels like winter is well and truly over.
